Fun Ways To Burn Off The Holiday Calories

Posted on

Many people overindulge during the holidays. With all of the delicious food available at parties, it is common to put on some extra weight. Things such as pies, cakes, stuffing, and all of the other foods that you find at Thanksgiving and Christmas parties are not the most conducive to maintaining one's ideal weight.

However, there is no reason to be despondent over a few extra pounds. In fact, you might take the opportunity to create a new years resolution to take up an activity that would help you lose some weight and also get into shape. If you are not the kind of person who loves hitting the gym and thinks that running on a treadmill would be beyond tedious, then here are some suggestions to consider.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

If you are someone who would like to learn some self defense techniques as well as burn off some calories, but are not into boxing, then consider Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is a great martial arts technique that is wonderful for both men and women. You can take a class and learn how to defend yourself in all sorts of situations. The cool thing about BJJ is that, unlike something such as boxing or karate, you don't have to strike or kick; it's based on grappling. A person who learns how to effectively grapple can defend themselves against someone who is much larger. You will practice with other students and, because there is no striking or kicking, you won't have to worry about getting injured. You will also learn important skills such as how to get out of a choke hold and other potentially dangerous situations that can come up while you're out in public late at night.

A Dance Class

If you are more of a lover than a fighter, then you should look into dance classes. There are all sorts of dance classes to choose from. You might like to do something such as a hip hop class, if you're a fan of modern music and want to be able to dance while out at a club. These classes are an intense cardio workout, so you will be getting into shape as well as learning some cool moves.

And if you prefer something more classical, you could always choose to take ballet classes. These are incredibly intense, as you will see if you watch some behind the scenes footage of ballet dancers practicing for a performance. You will work up a sweat, get toned muscles, and burn calories.
